The challenge

Where Brothers of Charity Services Scotland started.

Brothers of Charity Services Scotland supports adults with learning disabilities across Scotland. The people doing that work do it in residential homes, day services and the community — not behind a desk — so a learning library designed for office workers was never going to fit.

Off-the-shelf compliance modules covered the basics, but they treated a brand-new support worker, a senior on shift, and a service manager as the same learner. Mandatory training was getting done; personal development that helps people grow into a role was harder to make room for.

The team wanted a single platform that respected the realities of care work — varied shifts, varied locations, varied roles — and that put role-specific development next to compliance rather than treating them as separate problems.

The solution

What we built together.

Cademi gave Brothers of Charity Services Scotland one platform for statutory training, role-based pathways and personal development — without splitting the experience across multiple tools.

Role-based pathways meant the right content reached the right person. Support workers, seniors and managers each saw a tailored mix of mandatory and developmental learning, drawing on a catalogue that covers safeguarding, equality and diversity, health and wellbeing, manual handling and communication alongside softer-skill content.

Built mobile-first from the start, the platform fits the way care teams actually work. Staff complete training on a shift or at the end of one, without needing to find a laptop, and managers see at a glance where each member of the team is in their pathway.

The results

What's changed since.

Generic, one-size-fits-all training has been replaced with personalised learning that meets each member of staff where they are. The compliance categories care teams must stay current on sit alongside the developmental content that helps support workers grow — managed from a single dashboard.

For managers, the training spreadsheet has been replaced with a clear view of who is up to date, who needs a nudge, and what each member of the team is ready to take on next. For staff, learning fits around their day instead of the other way round.
